Getting outside is good for the soul. In such a chaotic world, we all need to find rest. Through my artwork, I hope to share the peace and joy I find in nature with others. While I do not typically paint, draw, or design landscapes, I use muted but cheerful colors that are reminders of the beauty found in the natural world. The organic shapes I use are an expression of the non-rigidity and imperfection of nature.
What do I want my art to say?
Remember the importance of rest. Reconnect with nature. When you are at your lowest, think about the little things that keep you going. Take notice of the beauty of creation. I hope that my artwork can be healing to others, as I have found art healing in my own life. In a world full of brokeness and hurt, small reminders of the little things in life that keep us going are essential.
When beginning a new graphic design project, I prefer to start on paper, loosely sketching out ideas and writing research notes. I then select my favorite designs and digitize them with Photoshop and Illustrator. Prior to studying graphic design, I practiced illustration for several years. I still use the methods I learned through illustration, which is visible in many of my designs.
During my senior year at George Fox, I am hoping to dive deeper into the professional world of design as well as honing skills in more specific areas of graphic design. Through my previous semesters at George Fox and Portland Community College, I have found that I have a particular interest in typography and branding. I am also interested in learning more about packaging design.
